Question

Carrier 58mvp Problem.

I have a 5 ton Carrier 58MVP furnace system that is 5+ years old. We purchased the house two years ago and the furnace has continued to give us problems. The house is a 2700 s.f. two story about 8 years old. We have spent over $2,000 with two different service people trying to fix the system. The propblem is that the system takes 4 hours to warm the downstairs from 66 degrees to 69 degrees while it is 40-45 degrees outside. The problem is that the furnace doesn't stay on long enough to warm the house.

The furnace cycles on and off at a rate of 6-7 minutes from start up to start up.
The cycle is :
intitial flame up and warm up
after 2 min. fan turns on
after 1-2 minutes the burner shuts off
after 1 more min. or so the fan shuts off. Fan total run time = 2-3 min.
system silent for one 0-1minute then intial flame up starts again.

Does anybody have any suggestions; this is getting very expensive!

Re: Carrier 58mvp Problem.

There is a whole check list of procedures a technician uses to help pin point the problem ranging from t-stat loction to inlet gas pressure. Have you checked your air filter? If you've have techs there, I would hope that it was one of their first checks. Any how, check it, see if its clean. A dirty filter will not allow heat to leave, over heating it and shutting it down on safety. Make sure your vents are all open for the same reason. Double check your thermostat's loction. Check to see if there isn't a false heat source, ie. a tv, stereo computer, anything that can put out heat and influence the t-stat to shut off early Anything further would constitute a qualified tech. Since you have spent so much money so far, I would recommend a company that only specializes in heating or HVAC service. Even a Carrier specialist. Make them a deal......No fix, no pay.......If ya fix it, I pay ya!
