blower noise on startup

My blower motor makes a noise and is slow to startup. Once it gets going it runs fine with no noises. I changed out the 22,000 cap with a 10,000 cap and the motor wouldn't get going (this was the only cap onhand). I put both caps together (parallel) and the motor starts up much quicker with little to no noise.

Do you think my orginal cap is going bad or is the starter windings in the motor on the way out and by adding the additional cap it is masking the problem? Don't want to buy a motor if all it needs is a new cap.

Goodman 2 stage multispeed gas furnace.

You will do more harm by not using the correct size capacitor. The wrong size cap could eventually overheat the motor and burn it out. You need a multi meter to check these out.

use a capacitor testor to see if you are getting the proper MFD. usually 3 to 5 MFD, but check to be sure. a plus or minus of 10% is allowed.
