Any Opinion On Spacepak? By What I've Seems I Am Convinced This Will Replace

By what I've seems I am convinced this will replace traditional ducted units especially on Historical homes renovations. I understand that Carrier has one unit with same concept as the tradename "Spacepak" that can be used as a furnace as well. Just wondering if any of you has had any opinion on these? Thanks

The Spacepak system has been around for at least 25 years. It's certainly nothing new. It is the cat's meeow when fitting a unit into a historical property, and new construction that presents special problems. The ductwork is special, and the air handler is a bit pricey. I like it very much, however.

Thank you mdshunk:

Oh wow this is what I like about this forum. These units are new for me and I ve been in the remodeling industry for 17 yrs now. Learn something new everyday. My HVAC guy mentioned it in one of the jobs, he gave me the impression that it was a new system.

Question, Is there any reason the spacepak would not be practical on a standard application, besides being pricey?

We got it install and I love it. Installation was the easiest I've seen and the unit works great.

No real reason why you can't use them on every install. The price of the system and the associated special ductwork ("attenuators") normally reserves the use of high-velocity systems for instances where they provide the specific benefit of small duct sizes.

The unit is an airhandler only not sure what you meant by it being a furnace also. The typical use in my area is with a house that has hydronic heating (no ductwork).

Pretty much this is the reason for my posting. My HVAC tech claims that he will install a High Velocity unit such as "SPACEPAK", however, it is not a space pak unit, its actually manufactured by Carrier, the unit has heat (not hydronic or heat pump) but with gas(such as a furnace). His claim is that it just hit the market. This is new for me, the Plumber ran the gas line already to the attic and the pletnum and attenuators are already in place. We are waiting for this unit that has not come for about a week now. I wonder if such unit does exist? Otherwise, I'll cancel his agrrement.
Any input will be greatly appreciated it.

Carrier has a hybrid heat pump/ furnace that I know of but I do not know about any new high velocity unit.

In the house I was recently working on, the HVAC guy installed a Unico A/C system. 22 Mini-ducts distibuted around the house. It has an electric auxillary heating unit, too. Could be connected to the boiler, as well. Pretty cool. Cost was similar to a standard duct system, but this was not a standard house....

Exactly the same as spacepak just a different manufacturer.
