Amer Standard Variable speed

I have 15 SEER Variable Speed AS units that were installed last year (gas furnace). My installation company ran 5 conductor wire to the thermostat (TH8110U). Can the two stage heat and variable speed blower work properly with only 5 wires? Two terminals are jumped together at the T stat

Yes....

The variable speed is a function of the ECM motor in these units, and has nothing to do with the stat or the stat cable.

5 conductors... sure.... Rh and Rc jumpered. Y,G, W1, W2. That's 5 conductors. I'm assuming this stat takes a battery?
