Question

Air Handler Filter?????

I have a Luxaire NAMB-FD10AC air handler in my attic. I believe the date on
the unit is 1989. I was talking to my neighbor who says he has to change a
filter on his air handler. I have never heard of this. I do change my 20x20
filter in my hallway ceiling where the air returns to the air handler.

I went into my attic and looked at the unit but could not find anywhere
where there might be a filter. Is it possible he has a newer unit that has
to be changed and mine does not? Can't seem to find a manual on this. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Air Handler Filter?????

If you have a main air return in the ceiling, and its the only return, then its a filtered return and you are doing the right thing. As long as the air is filtered before it goes through the air handler, then your o.k. doesnt really matter if its in the air handler or not. some have a filter rack right on the unit.

Re: Air Handler Filter?????

Your neigbor is probably refering to a fillter rack, some contractors use filter racks so that in the future they can install air cleaner w/o too much redesignining of the return duct. If you have a filter in the ceiling you don't need to worry as long as you keep that one clean.
