3 Zone System

Hello,
I have a 2400 sq ft house. ( forced hot air) I am finishing the basement, I had my heating guy over and to see what I could do to heat heat the area. The house has air, and only has one zone. He said we should up grade it to a 3 zone system. i agree with him. His price was 2500 to make it a 3 zone system. He said the duct was set up good to change it. My question is does 2500 sound fair. That includes new thermostats on all three floor zone dampers ect. Thanks

How is he going to make a 3-zone system out of one zone? Is he adding a separate furnace for the second floor and electronic damper to split the first floor and the basement?

Just one furnace, guess he will have to modify the duct work.

I guess he will spit all the ductwork in to three main supplies and use 1 or 2 electronic dampers. I don't know how efficient your system will be, and if it is big enough to handle additional 800-1000sqft of heating and cooling, because there will be a large loss.
I used a split system in a few houses I build but it was only for two floors, I never tried splitting 3 floors. I don't think it will work, but as the price goes it sounds reasonable.

I think that is a fair price. If the ductwork is already setup for this kind of arrangement, he will do well with the work. The fun part will be pulling thermostat wires, unless he intends on using a wireless system.

I do zoning on a regular basis. I don't have too many jobs that go under $3000.
