Like it or not accidents happen and not always because of stupidity. Tired, mind somewhere else, pressure for time constraints, lack of proper tools, etc, etc. I have a friend that works as a boilermaker on power plants as he says " I'll take lucky over good everyday" It's not always the affected employees fault. It's not just what your legally obligated to do but morally too. You want him do be a decent employee in the future, take care of him. He probably doesn't need a $2,000 medical bill hanging over his head. Wife, kids, mortgage to pay
