Tis the season to get dehydrated.
First sign for me is cracked heels and then cracked fingers. I generally know better now but I'd been working at a hospital and the porta john was 200 yards away and down 3 flights of temp stairs. The pressure was on to get some work done so I thought I would try to cut back on the water. Wrong. ... All the chit osha worries about and they miss the target on some of the important stuff..

Really? I've had plenty of cracked fingers, but never heels. I always just put it down to the cold and wet. But now that I think about it, I do drink very little in the cold weather; just not thirsty. I'll have to experiment with myself. In public, even.

Nobody makes you do anything. It's always your choice, grasshopper.
So what do those references have to do with cracked skin?

Heh. This may be news to you, young Jedi, but that happens to those of us who are of the Yoda persuasion regardless of how much water is poured into the envelope.
No lunch for you.

If you lose just 2% of your body weight through water loss, performance can start to be affected. If you are a 200 pounder, that's just a quart of water.
Never underestimate the power of water.
I wear a camelback when I work. Dehydration sucks.

I am not normally a coffee drinker but in the winter months this becomes the drink of choice. Who wants to drink a cold drink when it is only 10-20deg out. At coffee will help keep you warm and hydrated. I notice dehydration the most when plowing driveways too, heater on full blast in you face, 70-90 deg inside the cab and no time to stop between driveways so you can stay caught up. I always carry several beverages to stay hydrated, that and you never know when you will be stuck for several hours.

i think i'm an abnormally thirsty guy, i find myself drinking a lot more water than most people. i don't really sweat much either, even on the hottest days.
needless to say i much prefer working in the winter months.

I don't get the cracked heels buy man my fingers will crack and split bad. Used to take days to heal but my wife found this stuff called NexCare that works great! One swab of this stuff and it seals over and heals in a day or so. Of course, it looks like clear finger nail polish or possibly Superglue.
I am definitely guilty of not drinking enough during the winter.

K2, while lack of proper hydration will cause some skin problems, the presense of dry, cracked, and maybe painful and bleeding fingers is primarily due to a deficiency in Vitamin B12. Take a good quality B complex vitamin and you will see a difference.
