Tennis Elbow Anyone??

I can't grip and lift anything without pain....Simple movements are excruciating, not all, but many....I met with an Orthopedic Surgeon today.............. Rest

If you have it or had it you'll know what I'm talking about....

What's worked for you?

Currently, I have a wrist splint, taking anti-inflammatory meds, and using a heat wrap....I finished the day today with the splint, to my chagrin, but I'm optimistic.

Try cherry juice--my mom takes it for swelling and inflammation--she swears by it.

Re: Tennis Elbow Anyone??

If you struggle with it long enough, you will no doubt injure another joint from over compensation, then that will hurt so bad, you'll forget about the tennis elbow. Sad but true.

Figure out the cause of the tennis elbow, then go from there.

I had real bad tendonitis in my forearms from lifting once. I just rested and took aleve when needed and it wasn't long before it didn't hurt anymore

My wife takes Fish Oil pills. She swears by it. Big horse pills, sold in the vitamin section of the grocery store. Don't chew them!

I used them a couple years ago. When I was doing alot of kneeling putting in ash flooring. I remember it helping. I hate knee pads.

I've been struggling for 4 years...Generally, the framing stage aggravates the injury, then it isn't as bad, but never heals.

To be honest, I'd like to rest it for the rest of my life, but I have to pay the bills....

Anti imflammatories for sure. Take advil as soon as you feel it again in the future. Controlling the inflammation is the key. Rather than masking the pain, the alleviate the cause of it. Ultimately though, the cause is what you are doing. Look into the best/lightest tools you can get. Protect your body.

It took me about a year to get rid of mine. The problem with it is you get it recovered to a point where you forget about it, you can function it's really not all gone and as soon as you forget about it and go back to doing things normally it flames back up.

There is a special arm band that you wear that is a major component of curing it. You can take your fingers and do a deep tissue massage on it for relief and helping recovery from it. Also taking your other hand and bending back your fingers will give relief and help with recovery. Ibuprophen helps too.

Cortisone shots are a last resort.

Good luck, it took me about a year to get rid of it.

Buy the arm band.

Re: Tennis Elbow Anyone??

for me and use of a trowle l will go back to work on a thursday type idea if lve been on holidays ect and take weekend to rest and generaly by monday lm wrist has warmed up and lm good to go after that...
find alota bricklayers endup with tendinitous after comeing back from holidays or starting a new job and banging away..gotta watch for that and rest is only cure...basicly for tendinitous the sleave the the ligiment runs through swells and stops the ligement from slideing through there easly...bin der done dat and learned my lesson the first time
as for tennis elbow am not shure of cause ect for this issue but imagine its along similar lines..hopefully someone here will pipe up
when you get anti inflamitorys enshure they give you pill form and not a cream...those creams suck and never get down into the root of the issue...ice will also help bring swelling down

Yeah I forgot about the armband. I bought one (I think it's made by ace) and it helped a lot too.

Try Diclofenac.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diclofenac

My drug of choice

All kidding aside, I've battled this for the last five years, a doc prescribed this last July and now every time that wrist/elbow/shoulder flairs up I pop these for a couple of days and it goes away.

I've been completely incapacitated several times and tried various other "treatments" that never worked.

Re: Tennis Elbow Anyone??

In all seriousness if you are taking that drug every time it flares up you should understand that all you are doing is masking the inflamation and it won't ever go away until you change what is causing it.

Re: Tennis Elbow Anyone??

If its your hammer hand possibly buy a stiletto, Like mike said fixing the problem will start with trying to eliminate what is causing it. Stiletto says about helping carpel tunnel and tennis elbow and stuff. A lighter hammer should help. I don't have tennis elbow but i swing a stiletto to prevent that from happening, whether its true or not it feels so good!

Re: Tennis Elbow Anyone??

My tennis elbow got bad enough for surgery. The Doc found it was 75% torn when he went in. He went in and released the tendon. I was back to work the next day, one handed but I was there kicking ass. 7 months out from the surgery and no pain. Some weakness still but its really improving. No physical therapy, Doc told me to go to work and it will come back after the tendon gets use to its new attachement. I still caught Tuna with it

Get rid of your big heavy framer....and watch out on that compensating deal, you dont want to add a bad shoulder to it.

This is not my surgery, but its the same operation.
