You are correct, they do have chambers. But the concept is still the same, when you push (lay) down, it must push back somewhere else. Maybe I was being to critical about them but I did try one and didn't get a fuzzy feeling from it.

Appropriate title...as I sit here with a heating pad on my lower back.
Getting better though.

I alos learned the hard wasy that money buys a good night's sleep. After using an inexpensive spring mattress for years, and wondering why I always had back pain, I splurged on one of those memory foam mattresses. My back thanks me every morning. It can cost you upwards of $2000, but a good night's sleep and a pain free back are worth every penny.

34 years on water bed, love it! Also have a great Chiropractor. Chiro found I have one leg shorter so use a small lift in my boot, what a difference!

Update
Received the mattress on Friday. That evening, I had what I'd say is the regular amount of back pain. When I went to sleep, I slept well but I wouldn't say my first impression was super comfy. My back did feel very supported. When I woke up, I felt a bit of back pain, not as much as normal. After about 20 mins being awake, I was fine. That's a HUGE change.
Second night I went to bed with a lot of back pain. Spent majority of the day up in the attic above garage blowing in cellulose. I'd say degree of pain was high. Again, upon first laying in bed, I didn't get a comfortable feeling, rather a supported one (if that makes sense). When I woke up, NO PAIN!
I think it will take a week or so for me to get used to the much firmer bed but the initial morning results are promising!

The one thing I can't stand about a pillow top matress is it is insulation. In the summer it is like laying on a nice layer of insulation and it is hot. In the winter not so bad. It actually took me about 2 years to get use to it. The wife likes it.

bought one a few years ago. my wife swears they screwed up the order and didn't send the exact one we picked out on the sears showroom floor. we arent happy with it. it is firm but we both wake up in pain. I'm fine after about half an hour of work loosening up. I dont relish the thought of dumping another 1600 - 1800 bucks on another mattress and getting similar results. its a pillow top and yes it does get hot in the summer. I now sleep with a pair of pillows under my knees on my back or, sometimes on my side between my knees. Im gonna hafta do more research and do a do-over.

We did get a pillow top. Had to or the lil woman wouldn't have been on board. However, the construction of it is awesome. It's made up of latex foam, which is breathable and won't hold in heat. The fabric is a silk blend, which again, dissipates heat very well. I'm really digging this S&F! The only other mattress that felt remotely close was an all latex (various manufacturers). However, they were REALLY expensive...like $1000 more
