Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

First, it takes a lot for me to even consider going to the doctors. For the past few weeks I've lost some mojo didn't feel like going to the gym
And having my muscles ache during work. Didn't think anything of it. I did pull a tick off me 3 weeks ago. Didn't think anything of it.
So after feeling really sore and I mean every square inch of my skin hurts to touch, as well as laying in bed shaking cold but sweating though the sheets
And having a 103 temp. I decided it was time to go to the doctor.
Now I'm on meds for 21 days as well as Advil for my fever that I'm starting to kick. I don't wish this on anyone. I feel like I'm paralyzed at times.
To top it off I just started a job last week, I spoke with the customer and she seems cool. I just hope I'm not stuck in bed for weeks. Ugh
Any one else ever get this?

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

That sucks. I'm paranoid as all get out about it. Had a tickbite last year & it didn't get the classic bullseye associated with lyme disease, but it did start looking wierd, so I went to the doc. He didn't like it & put me on antibiotics just to be safe. Said a lot of the tests come back false. The antibiotics for it suck, that's for sure.

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

I know a few that had lyme - it effects everyone somewhat differently. I'm so paranoid about it, I'm about ready to just take a single dose of the antibiotic periodically, since a single dose will cure it early on. The longer it goes on, the longer it takes to cure.

BTW, for dogs it's now 35 days of antibiotics as best practice.

Prolonged under dosage can create antibiotic resistance and could make the drugs inactive when you do need them because its going to happen. They are everywhere....

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

I had it in the early 1990's and was sick for about 3 years. My son had it in 2010 and it took about 6 months to recover. Take care and find a GOOD Lyme Dr.

This isn't an underdosage, it kills it, period. It's possible it's an underdosage for other diseases, and may lead to resistance in those.

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

I never worry about it. I seem to have a built in tick repelant. I've spent lots of time in tick infested places and have never had one on me, the people I'm with aren't as lucky.

Hope you feeel better

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

That sucks. It's a really bad one here in Ontario because it's "supposed" to be non existant so docs don't even look at it as a possibility. I've only read about it in a few of the outdoor magazines. One guy in an article went to 4 or 5 docs with classic symptoms and the bullseye and they refused to treat it because it "didn't exist in Ontario". Went to the US for treatment and finally got resolution.

Hope you get better soon. Hard to run a business when you're sick

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

A few tips. Ticks can't grab onto hard surfaces easily, they grab onto fuzzy surfaces very well. Hard surface clothes (like Dickies work pants) won't pick up as many ticks as washed denim jeans. Same thing with shoes.

For tick infested areas, I have a pair of white pants and a white long sleeve shirt. I teat these after laundering with Permethrin spray and let them dry before wearing. Then I'll spray my shoes, around the cuffs of my pants and shirt with DEET. I never had a tick when I did this.

Reportedly, eating a lot of garlic repels ticks - maybe someone has experience with it?

A couple more. First, test results alone are far from conclusive. If you just suspect you have it and go get tested, you may well get a false positive and undergo unnecessary treatment. Testing combined with symptom analysis is much more accurate, though there's no denying it sucks to have the symptoms.

Second, bathe with Irish Spring soap. It repels ticks.

If it's caught shortly after the bite, it's a single dose treatment.

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

It takes at least 16 hours of feeding before Lyme is transmitted - unless the tick is squeezed when it's removed...

Ticks will crawl around on people, but in fur they travel very little. That's why they end up on my stomach

Lathering up for 5 minutes usually will drown any ticks. I say lather up twice a day with Irish Spring

Re: Just Found Out I Have Lyme Disease

Doxycycline, the generally preferred antibiotic, has just gone up in price 6000%. It's now very very expensive (don't know why).
