Re: How To Get On A Building?
I didn't mean that the way it sounded. I just wanted to see if there was a newer standard. My 1926 book is updated thru 2005, and it still shows that same letter. I'm pretty sure it was our insurance carrier telling the safety guy tie off is required if there is a factory tie off point. I certainly didn't want to argue about it, that's not where I was headed at all.

as to that letter still being in an OSHA reg book you have; it should stay there until the regulation it clarifies is removed or altered so the letter is unneccessary. Other than that, it should stay there forever to allow that interpretation to be accessible. I'm working at a job right now that requires tie-off in a scissor lift. It is their company policy. They started with the "well, we're not sure if OSHA requires a tie-off sinec there is a facility to tie off" and then "we don;t know how OSHA classifies a scissor lift..." what they don;t know is what the hell they are talking about. the also told us we had to install cleats at the base of an extension ladder if climbing over 8 feet. I call them the safety Nazis. |

Oh man! A couple three years ago I built an office/control room for a gas plant, for BP. The only shade was the safety guy's shadow as he was looking over your shoulder. Then there was another guy looking over his shoulder. I'd never seen anything quite like it. We had to pull a permit to drive a form stake in the ground, if it was going to go more than 12''. I mean, safety is most important. Coming home is what it's all about. But these guys, they are waaaay over the top.

Re: How To Get On A Building?
Have to side with Joasis on this one. Although originally from the Sooner State, I'm a transplant to Texas. Some union here as there are alot of factories, etc. Very few union roofing co. shops, and those are in Dallas or Houston. Would be interested to here from the union contractors how it is being union as it is mostly Greek for us down here.
BTW, Joasis....OU or OSU today?
