Re: Finger Count
Have 9 1/2 left with 2 other mauled by a saw. Got the middle and ring finger about 15 years ago...not real sure how, I blame it on a long rip and a 16 hour workday (Alaska summer schedule).
I Got the middle finger (again) and the index finger on the left hand about 4 weeks ago. I was taking 3/4" out of a 2x4 for a deck railing with a 18 volt cordless saw. I think the battery was almost dead and I was almost done. Not enough umph left to cut, but enough to kick. http://www.contractortalk.com/showth...t=39195&page=3 Should have shared the details earlier for safety reasons and an eye opener here. I sent the pic to every carpenter I have an E-mail for. Some swore at me. My brother tells me thanks, because it kinda brought it to the front of his mind when making a cut. They're healing pretty good. I'm actully using it and have been coming home with some pretty dirty bandages. I have nailers to drive every thing, except facia trim nails. I have some garage doors to wrap and am scared to death to have them that close to a swinging hammer though. It's amazing how you beat the hell out of the rest of your digits because you use them to do things they wouldn't normally do. Picked up the electric guitar last week, running bar chords (they needed a some work anyways). Tried the acoustic but it made the index finger ache. Re: Finger Count
They all work fine but 2 of them are a bit mangled. I don't know if they count though cause I hurt them playing, not working.

Re: Finger Count
I still have all my fingers. All work, but on the left hand no feeling in the pinkey and ring finger. Cut a nerve cut in my wrist 8 years ago on the job.

Re: Finger Count
Still have 10. Have cut, nailed, smashed, and broken most of them. All still work. Doc asked where I learned to set bones? " Whem working, you just set it and get back to work!" All I set are straight. I 'forgot' to set one, and it's crooked.

Re: Finger Count
Actually, I still have ten fingers.
Tho, I almost lost my right thumb, index, and middle finger 2 years ago. Still no feeling on tip of middle finger...

Re: Finger Count
Sad to say it, but my hand modeling days are far behind me.
Besides about a dozen scars of various shapes & sizes, the ring finger of my left hand has a bit of a deformed tip. Smashed it in the belly of a 727 in the middle of a subzero night. Split the tip wide open.

Re: Finger Count
This past Friday night, I decided to see what it would feel like to trim my fingernail with my table saw. Got slightly more than I bargained for.
![]() ![]() ![]() I was ripping a 3/4" thick piece of plywood down to 3/8". I THINK the fence moved on me because the piece had a slight bow to it and I was pushing it tight against the fence when the blade came through the side of the board. I felt a little tickle and jerked my hand away real quick-like. I know I got off easy. |

Re: Finger Count
I have 10 fingers but I cut my thumb on a table saw when cutting a thin piece of wood and it jumped forward. It happened on the job and my customer kinda got freaked out. LOL.
I had to get a small skin graft because it couldn't be just sewn up. It's been almost a year now and you really can't see any damage unless you look close but there's still a lack of feeling in the spot that got damaged. Here's a pic of my finger a few days after the skin graft. |
