The Constant Reminder...

Which is life. Can't go into detail, but there are some things you just wish you didn't see. Be careful guys/gals, but most of all, be aware of those whose hands your life lay in.

Ugh, that wasn't good.

Tell us more when you can, I'd like to know if it was equipment failure or 'other'. I'm hoping its not, but I'm guessing 'other'.

1/2 a second before the accident, Jim looked at Bob with a smile and
said, "Hey dude, watch this."

Re: The Constant Reminder...

Happened last night and it wasn't the boom operators fault. Really nothing he could do. It was piggybacking on a flatbed prime mover (train)

Re: The Constant Reminder...

One thing I know about these machines is that they don't have the power to squash the bucket like that on their own. But I wasn't sure if it had flipped with operators in it and somehow squashed like it did. Well, was there a guy in it at the time of impact?

These things are fun to drive in though, especially when you have the arm fully extended, and the bucket about three feet off of the ground going forward on a very uneven ground. If I didn't have a harness on I would have been launched, but still made it about three feet in the air. It was scarey, so we stopped at the 25th time.

Re: The Constant Reminder...

He was about 20' up inside a 3' x 6' concrete coffer in a ceiling that was sloping down in the direction the bucket was moved. Coffer was 3' deep so his bucket was in it. Comm. breakdown got the PM to move before checking with his deck man. As he was moving forward all anyone could do was watch the bucket collapse around the guy. All the guy in the bucket could do was watch himself get consumed by it. Luckily I learned last night that he got away with 2 breaks in his legs, but he's 60y.o., so it will effect his life i'm sure. Man it looked like something out of a movie. The adrenaline running through you because you want to do something to help, but you can't was a frustrating feeling. I'm just glad that he didn't get hurt like everyone thought he would. He's truelly blessed.

Re: The Constant Reminder...

Are you even permitted to use a boom lift on the back of a material train? I know for sure that you're not allowed to use one off the back of a flatbed truck.
