question on per diem on a prevailing wage job

I was just wondering if the company pays the employee per diem on a prevailing wage job. I live in NY and I have friends with other companies that do telecom. work and when they are working on a prevailing wage job that is out of town the company does not pay per diem for the food and hotel stay because of the higher wage. Is that fair to the employee? Not for anything but I never liked the fact of paying to work, no matter what the wage is. Just wondering if anybody knew the rules on this or not.

thanks

Lets see, an employer is never required to pay a per diem & you as an employee probably go from 20 an hour up to 53 - there's you per diem & then some

Talk to an accountant, it may even be reimbursable on your taxes

Oh & quit you whining, there are plenty of people out there that would love to have said job

per diem on a prevailing wage job

I always pay both per diem and hotel on these jobs. The number of hours my guys work and how much they make on a PW job shouldn't be a consideration because when they make more, I make more.

Per Diem is required as 'travel & subsistence' pay for most trades on most public works whether state or fed. How much, and if, all depends on the type of pw, funding source, area, scope of work provisions for the trade(s), etc. Good luck.
