Punch-down
I need a understanding on something ,here is the scope of the work we perform at copy machine office before the concrete deck was poured:
(4) copier machine station (5) computer desk station (5) cubical desk station I ran of course 120v,and also cat-5 to every station but here is where my knowledge is scanty on my punch-down I'm familiar about punching down on the board left to right but in regards to high-speed does computer get punch down first or does that matters and also how does the copier get a signal from computer ,because I just ran cat-5 to the copier. As you probaly can tell I'm a resi-man, boogie- jumper. Jus trying to expand a little without getting hurt in the wallet. Last edited by MO-AMPS; 12-09-2008 at 10:46 PM. |

Re: Punch-down
Where is all the Cat-5 going at the opposite end from the device?
I hope you are not just punching them all down to a block. That will not work for networking only for phones. For network devices (computers, printers, copiers, cameras, etc.) to communicate with each other they need to all hook up through a network switch. The switch will transmit network traffic from one device to another and will remember at what port each device is, a hub is a dumb switch and will transmit network traffic to all devices. |

Re: Punch-down
The order in which you punch down should be on the prints if anything is specified. I typically punch data and phone in separate groups on the patch panel, like D1 - D12 on the left side and V1 - V6 on the right. The data ports are jumpered to a switch and the voice will jump to a 66/110 block, phone system or switch depending on the type of service. Your copier plugs right into the switch, not the computer. Most office-sized machines are actually their own computer - they scan documents to a file on the network or even email them out to employees or customers.
