Re: Low Voltage Work

Harass GCs with better quality and know how than the electricians.

Harass electricians with your skillz. All the ones I have met on the job hate pulling TV/telephone, and don't usually know how to do it right in the first place.

Yes I know there are some who do, but they don't seem to be working on any of the houses around here.

Re: Low Voltage Work

I had the same problem and NEVER found a solution,so I've basically had to go after commercial work.Since I've been in business (July 2005) I've done a total of 10 house. It seems like the Electrican here have the market locked up.I've went as far as offer a introduction deal,I call ALL the GC's in my Parish (New Orleans) and offer to do the 1st house for cost just so they could see what the difference was between me and a Electrican, not one of them called back! How stupid of them that was a win win for them!

I'm facing the same problem in the Central PA area. Looking for commercial and residential work and just not sure where to find it.

Re: Low Voltage Work

Same problem in Ottawa Canada. My business is new,

I figure our target market is:
1) Trades (framers, drywallers)
2) Builders, Renovators & GC's
3) The end consumer

For builders & trades i plan on giving them price they are able to mark up and sell to thier client. Emphisis on personal selling.

To reach the end consumer i plan on direct mail, post signs and directory listings.

Am I wasting my time with the end consumer?
Is this the right route to go?
Would becoming an electrician to better sell the LV be worth it?

Any thoughts are much appreciated
Cheers!

Re: Low Voltage Work

Ryann -
I guess it comes down to what your offering.

On our end of the LV business, we always want to get in front of the end user (home or business owner).
I cannot sell integration / automation systems to anyone else.

Re: Low Voltage Work

I just got my Florida's EF License. I have a few things that I have to consider now. I initiated my business entity. It is hard to start going on your own since I need some cash flow. A company here in Orlando wants me to work for them so that I can pull permits. They want me to qualify their company with my license. I'm not sure at what hourly rate should I work for them since I am new. I would like to work for them for now till things start going well for me financially and go on my own.

Two questions: How much should I accept in hourly rate? How can I get finance to go on my own?

Please advise.

Thanks.

As win-win as it is, they view you as a sucker. They DO NOT trust you for the next.

NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE. They assume that you will rape them on the next job to compensate for the freebie!

BuildingHomes , do you have any publications you recommend that GC and Electricians read? Trying to find more avenues to reach them with our product offering.

That would be a question for the GCs and electricians.
