Re: Low Voltage Licence
Licencing requirements are local. Check with the building and electrical departments in your local jurisdictions, and state.

Re: Low Voltage Licence
Pretty good for a pie taster!
Or does the EC stand for "Eclair"?

Re: Low Voltage Licence
One of our local municipalities requires a license for any electrical work over 10 volts-so basically that leaves solar lighting or 9 volt battery powered lights, if they even exist. This requirement may even be statewide, I'm not sure. I know alot of areas don't bother enforcing some of these things.

![]() The 10v limit is statewide...the only exceptions are: Irrigation contractors up to 30V with the scope of irrigation (no landscape lighting) HO permited in their O-O SFH Fire alarm, tele/data, etc can get an "exempt" license, which limits them to that type work only. etc.... It's a very short list.... http://www.nj.gov/lps/ca/electric/eleclaws.pdf

Re: Low Voltage Licenceim starting a network company and looking for the lincence requierments-if any apply The bad news is that unless you are licensed or have someone licensed working with you (read partner) you can't just decide to "start a network company". Legally, that is, if the jurisdictions you want to work in require a license. That's because you don't just fill out some papers to get a license. There is a verifiable experience requirement which means working for someone else who holds a license for a period of years. Then there is usually some type of formal education requirement. A Microsoft CNE doesn't mean a hill of beans in this trade. -Hal |

The CNE program was Novell's.

Re: Low Voltage Licence
I am an alarm installer for a small company in NM and have been installing for nearly 11 years. Because I have moved up to service I never do any new construction wiring anymore. The only time I was ever asked to see my low-voltage license was when I was at a house or building that was under construction and the inspector was feeling, let's say "voltage happy". So my question is, other than running new wire in new construction, why is a low-voltage license required, or is it?

Re: Low Voltage Licence
One reason, of course, is $
![]() I have also seen some absolutely hideous work by low voltage installers. (And line voltage guys too). With a license, at least there is some hope that the installation is done properly, and the installer is insured. Improper bonding is an issue I see a lot.
