License In Oregon Needed For...?

Have been in the communications industry for seven months and having seen a lot of room for improvement, I'm looking to get into it myself because I can do a better job. A lot of the homes I go to have been wired as cheap as possible, with poor materials, and sometimes a few of the lines don't work at all.

Specifically, I'm looking to get into prewiring of homes for coax and maybe twisted pair. Have gone through all of the company training programs successfully, plus six months of field experience. Not a whole lot, I'll admit, but I'm only looking to set up the wiring for those two things.

So... for coax and twisted pair, is it required to have an LE (A or B) in Oregon or is it not necessary? Have heard a few different answers, but haven't found a solid one yet and haven't been able to speak to anyone in the state about it yet.

Thanks for any advice and information.

The only difference between a LE A or B, is that the B cannot do any Protective Signaling wiring.

“Protective Signaling” includes fire alarm, nurse call, burglar alarm, security and voice evacuation systems and other systems that are part of a fire or life safety system.

You need 6000 hours of verifiable experience or apprenticeship for the A license, plus pass the test.

You need 4000 hours of verifiable experience or apprenticeship for the B license, plus pass the test.

And yes you do need a license. I forgot how many years back when the state started cracking down on people doing computer network wiring, I think around 1999 or 2000.

But if you are really serious about this, you should look into a apprenticeship. And you should really just do the extra 2000 hours over the LE A license and get a journeymens license. This way you will not be limited by anything.
