Height Of Pull Station
Hello all,
I have a small challenge. Local township is saying that they are following ICC ANSI A117.1-2003 as it relates to the height of Pull Stations. I can't seem to find that little bit of info and am looking for some help. I know that NFPA 72 says that the pull station should be mounted at 42"-54" AFF ADA says that the pull station should be mounted at 48" AFF PA Title 34 Part 1 says between 36" and 44" AFF I certainly wish that at some point in my life everyone would specify one code and one code only. ![]() ![]() ![]() So what does ANSI A117.1-2003 say??? I can't seem to find an exact reference to this listing. Thanks in advance. Les

Re: Height Of Pull Station
That's not what it says. It says no higher than that.
Here's a special link for you: http://www.richmond.ky.us/department...s/Refs/ADA.pdf The reach limit ranges in the ANSI spec are identical to the ADA. Last edited by mdshunk; 03-10-2008 at 10:46 PM. |

Re: Height Of Pull StationQuote:
MD, yes you are correct I typed the ADA statement in the wrong way. Thanks for the link but I already found that and saved it to my HDD for future reference. The piece of info that you have given that is most important is that ANSI is identical to the ADA. That is what I could not find. I did some some reference somewhere that "devices" should be mounted at 15" to 48". That is a bit general I think. ![]() Anyhow thanks for the info. Very helpful. Have a good tomorrow. Les

Re: Height Of Pull Station
FWIW, I've been doing these 45" to the top of the box with no troubles from anyone, but I'm convinced that many installers have more of a clue about what's going on than the inspectors do. I think the actual operable portion of the proposed pull station needs to be taken into consideration when choosing a mounting height. I used Edwards pull stations, mainly, so the operable portion is pretty well centered (as most seem to be).

Re: Height Of Pull Station
MD
I use Firelite BG-12. The actual operator is near the bottom. As I understand it the measurement it to be to the operator. I normally set them to just under the 48" mark. I have not had a problem either. But this is the first time I have had it specified the ANSI so it threw me a curve. BTW the link you sent does not (at least that I can find) spec out a height of a Pull Station. It spells out a Smoke, Horn Strobe, etc. but not a Pull Station. It seems a little strange. Les
