Bathroom Phones

Does the NEC address how telephones are installed in bathrooms? I never gave much thought, accept the ringer can have 90+ volts when ringing. Does the phone need to be a certain distance from a water source?

Oddly, the NEC does not address this.

In fact, there are commercially available shower units with phones installed in them from the factory.

Re: Bathroom Phones

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has done that. Makes for some creative times to cover over the reciever end of the phone and of course you need a pretty big pause to cover the flushing!

Re: Bathroom Phones

I feel that there are some times that one is allowed complete privacy. In the bathroom is one of those times.

Re: Bathroom Phones

I personally think a phone jack in a bathroom is obsolete these days. The majority of people use wireless phones in there home. Those were big before wireless in my oppion. I agree with teetor who needs the phone ringing when your in the bathroom.

Re: Bathroom Phones

Come on now 747, you never been on the phone with a long winded customer or vendor and have to go really bad? All you gotta do is tell them hold on a second, I'm switching over to the crap phone.

Re: Bathroom Phones

I just got my memory jogged. Do any of you guys remember the "confidencer" mouthpiece that you could screw on the old style Stromberg/Westinghouse G type handsets? It was for bathroom phones, and it filtered out ambient sounds (like plopping, tinkles, and flushing), and only transmitted what was spoken directly into the mouthpiece.

Nope, but the G and K type handsets remain popular yet today.
