Wow, quite the comments!! Let me give you some REAL insight in working in the UAE. If you are a professional or a certified tradesman, you can make a lot of $$. The UAE is an extremely moderate Muslim country. As a foreigner, you get a license to buy alcohol and in Dubai and other major centers every restaurant has a "National" and "Foreigner" side, the latter serving alcohol, pork, etc.
Women can drive and don't have to walk around covered from head to toe.
It is definately a different culture and it is hot, although its a dry heat

As for not getting paid and deplorable working conditions, There exists a certain hierchy when it comes to "workers". Labourers are treated like crap, professionals and trades are treated like gold.

And like the rest of the World, the UAE did in fact slow down with some projects delayed, however, it has already started to pick up there.

There are also quite a few U.S. or Canada/UAE conglomerate companies in the construction sector.

If I didn't have 2 little angels and a wife at home I would seriously consider moving there. No income tax. No sales tax. Gas is 0.25-0.30 a litre. You can easily make 100K a year - US $$ Many companies will give you a housing and car allowance.

Finally, the stuff they are building over there is awesome!

It would be more appealing if you new who to deal with. SOO many con artists out there.

I've had people try screwing with my money lodging transportation etc. on the road and that was in this country and 6hrs or less to drive, hitch hike whatever.

I've had others want me to pay THEM for a year membership to get on a disaster etc. travel list of canidates.

I know there is TREMENDOUS potential I would just like to know who to trust.

Re: Carpanter Needed To Work In UAE - Dubai

My sister who is a teacher was actually the one that got the job in the UAE first. She went through quite a recruitment process that took about a year if I remember correctly. They do very thorough background checks (at least for teachers), but, everything they said they would do they did.
My brother in-law waited until they were over there because of a law that says if you quit a job you can't apply for another for a year. He wanted to make sure he picked the right one, which he did.

I think like anything there are going to be scammers out there, but, with some due diligence, you can do well.

I looked around to find out more about working overseas, hit a dead end. It's mostly speculation, and hear say. Is there really a place that hires carpenters and pays them well? Hello, Anybody There?

We install steel buildings around the globe, just bid a contract for 25 buildings in the UAE, not quite Dubai, but it's somewhere out there in the middle of nowhere. Had this job for a while and my pay runs about 180k + 4 round trip tickets/yr + all room/food is paid for. First approx 90k are tax free income. If things go good, you even get a bonus. Greens make bout half or bout 2/3rds.
