Business Partner In Central PA

I am an EC in Central PA wanting a business partner. Half for moral support, and half to spread the workload that an owner must endure between two people. This is not a joke. Even if you're not a business owner yourself, just an electrician thinking about striking out on your own. PM me. No kidding. I'm overwhelmed, and I don't even bid on half the crap that I could possibly bid on (and win).

Re: Business Partner In Central PA

Just curious here, rather than making such a commitment with the obvious possible problems, why not just hire a person to do the tasks that would remove the workload from you? If it doesn't work out, no big deal. I could use some help myself but a partner wouldn't be the way I would go.

Re: Business Partner In Central PA

I have been running adds for 3 weeks now and have had 2 replies, both from illegals...not one qualified response...and this is for construction, not a specialty like EC. My concrete sub was saying yesterday he is turning down over 1/2 the jobs he is called for and said he couldn't hire help to run another crew if he tried. He is thinking the younger guys are not coming up in the trade, and no one wants to really work anymore.

Not to hijack this thread but what kind of market do you think there is in this part of pa.for a hi-end remodeling/building contractor. This bigcity suburban market that i live and work in is starting to make me feel like a hamster on a tread mill.Combination of high cost of living high cost of doing business, coupled with the eyes are way bigger than thier wallet type customers that just waste your valuable time. Btw i may know a lic. electrician who might be interested,pm me and i will foward your contact info.

I had a board of directors meeting with myself, and I decided to seek a partner. How much money does one man need? My needs are few. Why not spread it around a little?

Not sure. I know that the most of the best remodeling contractors that I sub for have about a 2-3 month wait after the job is sold. I know that in May, one replacement window contractor was scheduling for August because he was so booked.

All the counties I work in are of a rural mindset, even though there are some reasonably sized cities and boroughs. A carpetbagger wouldn't stand a chance for at least 4-5 years solid advertising to make it seem like he's been there forever.

Ok, just being a business owner myself and realizing how difficult it really is and all the years of struggling and poverty, I guess it's just hard to believe. To just allow someone to walk right in and reap the benefits of your success without going through the struggles him or herself. Seems a bit generous, not that it's a bad thing. I guess then I commend you for your generosity and congratulate you on your success! Of course I don't know the financial details and all, regardless, I don't think I would have a partner, other than the wife of course.

Re: Business Partner In Central PA

sounds like you are exhausted MDS...
& a partnership is probably one of the few ways to draw not only an E1, but one to function w/ dedication & autonomy...

has the skilled labor pool dwindled so far that we have to use our established biz, as bait?

i have accepted that nobody will work as hard as I, nor do i expect it..
i look back and think, wow my last employer got the best of ,, of well

Re: Business Partner In Central PA

i am afraid you "ad" has either regressed or evolved into a discussion of the circumstance, which would prompt one to offer his buisness.
I assume you started your biz, worked yourself sick, years seem to be a blurr.

I find it interesting "moral support" is listed in the post. Surrounded by vendors, guys, & customers & feeling isloated? I can relate to that.

I am basically a mason,, with solid plumbing skills, and i know how to use a few settings on my multi-meter. I am not performing "rocket surgery." In fact a guy w/ good head on his shoulders can spend 3 yrs
riding around & working w/ me & I could send him out.

Most of my buddies are suits or work for the state.
Lets look at manpower as a raw material, the quality of material i see on the market is waining. Good "materials" demand a premium.

E1 work is serious stuff, years of training & continuing education. A very expense tradesman to craft.

I am in a less anylitical/quanitive field than you. You would assume that i can whip a guy into shape no problem. My field is also seasonal & i am in new england. I hate to say it but my biz/trade (not just Pool & Spa)
attracts "troubled" fellows. When a guy in his 40s comes in to dig trenches, theres a good chance i am in for a headache.
When that college freshamen comes in, I want him on my crew. Often they are working to shut up mom & dad, or for beer money. (i am in a relatively affluent part of the state.) These kids tend to work out well but have a 4 yr shelf life.

I am 32 yrs old & not only find myself saying "whats wrong w/ kids today?" but adults too

sorry to digress from the OP, moderators move this one? I would like to seef urther exploration.
