Is Anyone Working In Michigan.......?

Everything seems to be dead around Oakland County in all the trades except for the brickies.

I know things are really slow here in Toledo,Ohio. I've been lucky and got a few repaints, But as far as new construction alot of people aren't doing a darn thing.

I know what you mean, I do Insurance repair work and the calls for estimates are few and very far between. I have a few jobs lined up, but not anything really to write home about. I just made it thru the winter if I wouldn't have had 25k in saving we would have been in the street.

We haven't hit bottom yet! That's the sad part.
You're better off to close things down an head south were the works at.
In the last four months permits have dropped another 50%. Jezz what's next? They should just widen all the south bound lanes to make it easyer for the people that are leaving the state.

Re: Is Anyone Working In Michigan.......?

Actually we have hit bottom , today there was 2 ads in the local paper one guy told me he would pay up to 12 dollars but he needed my truck and tools. The other company said if I had the proper tools he would pay 9 dollars...My last crew laborers made 12 to start. Both guys were very arrogant when I politely said no thank you.

I met a man at a camp ground this weekend that was an out of work carpenter. He is living in a tent with no food or car.
He has lost it all. It's that bad around here. All he had was a jug of water to drink. When I hear stuff like (THE JOBS AMERICANS WONT DO)
That crap pisses me off. I don't see politicians doing carpentry work.
Try to feed an raise your family being a carpenter. It's not easy..
It's some sad times for people around here.

GM just bought out another 25,000 workers. I'm pretty sure 22,697 of em drive pickuptrucks and fancy themselves as pretty handy with their hands.....

This is the reason I left Indiana 2 years ago. Not much going on. The work here (Florida) is abundant, and employees are calling the shots. I had a guy quit last week because we wanted him to travel...40 minutes!

Re: Is Anyone Working In Michigan.......?

is exploding with construction..all types, new, remod, commercial...all trades. Four years ago in April I pulled a building permit and I was no.36 to date. This year I pulled a permit in April and I was no.637.
As far as wages go, the going rate for women to clean is $17.00 p/h.
According to the mayor of one town they have approved permits for 157 million in residential and commercial plus they are going to break ground on a 400 million casino in the next couple of weeks. This is a town with a pop of about 1800.
Get out of Detroit and come down to Berrien County. Being a easy hour drive from Chicago is what is fueling the fire, Nothing under 400k for new residential and that would be a townhouse 2000 sq ft.
If you want more info email me and I will call you........Walt

Not much going in Toledo either. Although, the company I work for (a framing company) is probably looking for more guys. We are working on apartments and we are pretty backlogged. If anyone wants to make the drive to Toledo, I could give you a phone number.

I think with the price of fuel that's out of the question.
3.25 per gallon here.

Re: Is Anyone Working In Michigan.......?

I just read the newspaper and it seems that almost every city around Detroit is looking to put Millage increases on the November Ballot , I think what Michigan needs is to put Grandhole out of a job and get someone who knows how to run a business not be a Lawyer to create higher taxes and keep Michigan folks from working, I have been looking at forclosed propertys and in a 1 mile square from my house I found 15 empty houses . From what I have read Michigan has had something like 85,000 Familys move out of the State since Jan 06. When I was driving home from the job I'm doing and seen the gas prices are up to $3.15 for low grade unleaded , why is it Grandhole won't remove the TAX from gas ? and to think she is planning to run again for Govenor
