Wow! Another CL Post...

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/sks/653559142.html

I think I might contact this guy to see how it's built. I'll keep you all posted.

You have to check out his deck gallery! His bath & kitchens don't look too bad for a handyman, but I'm not as bath & kitchen guy...

The pics on his web site look like decent work. Who knows what's underneath?.

His website says "We can and will beat ANY price estimate. Everything is negotiable." LOL...His life must be a living hell.

This is at the bottom of his CL post:

License info: Unlicensed Probably no insurance either

I wouldn't get out of bed to do a deck for $899

I thought that too. I noticed there is a pressure washer in the one pic, but there is no mention of cleaning.

Unlicensed doesn't really mean too much here in Indiana. Only trade that requires a license is Plumbers I believe, not even sparkies.

I too am not licensed, but the big difference is that I do carry insurance & I know what I'm doing & do quality work.

Looks like he is a pressure wash/deck cleaning guy.

Tho, he needs to learn how to run a proper ad description....

Re: Wow! Another CL Post...

I'd certainly be ashamed of posting those deck pic's on my website. As for $899.00 12x12 deck, think about this. You can buy a prefab 12x12 PT porch with rails for $499. I'm thinking this may be what he is offering. It's a very low quality deck made from culled wood.

I'm going to run cost on a 12x12 pt (b grade) with rails on a 30" rise and see what i come up with.

It shows he is working for $10 per hour based on 1 man crew after materials

I think he's a nut job.

I remember the days working for $10/hr. I just couldn't keep up collecting all those shopping carts.

Re: Wow! Another CL Post...

How does he pull permits with no license? In California you need to be licensed to contract for more than $500. Maybe Indy is different. I like the last line in his ad - This offer only good until May 1, 2008. I guess his prices go up after that.

Look at the pictures under his "exteriro remodeling tab"

quote from their website:

We never 'hard sell' our services, and everything is negotiable. Our goal is to 'earn' your business and keep it, the good old fashioned honest way.
We can and will 'beat' any price estimate/bid you receive from other companies, with equal if not better workmanship.

Re: Wow! Another CL Post...

Maybe he's an old hippie still living in the 60's, that's where he got his pricing from. Must be living pretty far out in the sticks, not even the rural people around here would go for that kind of work.

I'm guessing he doesn't bother either. I've never had a problem pulling permits without a license for my decks. Like I said, I believe the only trade requiring a license is plumbers. Not sure how that effects pulling permits for a kitchen or bath. As I've ever done one, except my own house & I'm the HO so it doesn't matter there. You can pull any permit all day long if your the HO.
