Question

Wooden Privacy Fence Gates

What is the best way to install wooden privacy fence gates??? Let's assume a 6' tall dog ear solid privacy. Assuming one 4' walk thru gate and one 12' double drive gate. How would you guys install this??

I currently use 1-5/8" OD metal gate frames for all of my gates. The frames are drilled so I can attach the 2x4's with screws or sometimes bolts. I use chain link style hinges attached to the frame and use 10" long threaded "J-bolts" thru the post. I use 4x6 posts and drill thru, using a nut and washer on each side of the post.

This has worked fairly well for me because of the adjustability and it stops warping. The only down side is the labor involved in marking and drilling all the holes in the frames for the screws or bolts.

What kind of setup do you guys use? What type of hinges? Gate frames? Anybody just use standard strap hinges with a diagonal brace and/or a tension cable?

Trying to find a setup that will eliminate sagging/warping and doesn't take as much time and labor.

Re: Wooden Privacy Fence Gates

If this is of any help,I use STEEL ZINC COATED posts and you have mentioned steel gate frames [ZINC COATED].4 inch for the larger gate post and 2-7/8 for the smaller gate post. This will help with any sagging.
