Vinyl Horse Fence

Does anybody here have any experience with vinyl horse fence? Our only experience is in taking it down to replace it with wood. They say PVC lasts forever, but the stuff we've removed has been brittle, splintered, falls apart, and the rails pop out easily. I honestly don't see how this stuff holds horses. It's pretty when it goes up. but gets ugly fast. Does anybody have anything positive to say? Because I can't honestly recommend the stuff in any way at this point, not for horse fence.

Re: Vinyl Horse Fence

I pass a place on the way to my son's house,
where they put some up a couple of years ago.
There are 5 Percherons there, not exactly tiny
animals (beautiful ones in fact).
They only have it along the road, but I haven't
seen 'em doing any repair or replacement.
I had kind of the same thoughts as you
when I saw them putting it in.

Re: Vinyl Horse Fence

I sell around 20,000 ft. of the stuff a year. Which isn't much when talking about horse fence. There is cheap stuff and quallity stuff out there, just like everything else. The cheap stuff is brittle and tends to turn yellow. There are different ways that the rails secure into the posts. Again some are better that others. They are designed to come out of the posts though. In case a horse decides it's going to make a run for it the rails pop out rather than injuring the animal. I always recomend a hot wire to be run along the inside of the fence to deter pushing by the animals. Many people use it along the road and the drive because it looks nice, then use a less expensive fence for the rest.
