Two-Tone TimberTech Earthwoods Job

We just finished this one. It was half a reskin and a 14x14 addition to the existing. LED lighting by Dekor.

http://picasaweb.google.com/FineHome...s/TwoToneDeck#

This job seemed like the never-ending project with all the detailing, but it came out great and the HOs are thrilled. I am glad to be done with it and onto the next one!

Yes, Mark, it is...

I have a tough time shooting the Earthwoods deck colors and making them look correct on screen. The Walnut always looks too light and the Teak tends to get orange.

I used to be a commercial photographer in my old life, but I am so lazy when it comes to taking pics now....go figure.

I will Photoshop all those pics before they go into my portfolio anyhow.

Really nice Greg on the details ie lighting, post caps,two-tone materials.

Don't take this the wrong way but that dryer vent is going to cause some moisture/heating/lint prob's in the future or did you do something to prevent that issue?

Thanks.

It's not a dryer vent...it's only a fart fan otherwise, we'd have moved it.

Your projects shine, dude, they really do! That color combo kicks ass, drop the black rail on top and its...bam, super tight!
It's a pleasure to be in the company of such builders...

Greg, how much light do those step lights give off. It sure looks like it would be easier to install then the boxes I cut in.

Each one of those quarter-sized lights has 3 LED heads in them. The white face you see is a frosted diffuser. They give off a little more spot-lighty than a louvered incandescent, but the effect is nice.

Cutting in the boxes is a major PITA no doubt. All you do with these is drill a 1" hole with a forstner and PL the housings into place. Very simple.

I have to thank Matt Breyer for putting me onto these LED lights by DEKOR. They are made in the USA and are very well made compared to the other lights we've dealt with. The post lights cost about $60 each and the stair lights are about $20 each.

The nice thing is that you only need to run 18 ga wire to the fixtures (cheaper). The LEDs draw so much less amperage than incandescents. The transformer is also tiny too. I will post a pic later. The only minus is that the post lamps have three 22 gauge leads coming from each fixture so each fixture requires six wire strips as opposed to two. Not a big deal, but it takes a little more time.

Next time, I think I might get a butane soldering gun and solder the connections rather than wire nut them since the wire is so fine.

Agreed!
Another thank you to Matt.
Were those the 30º "down light" kind?
The biggest PITA about them for me
is figuring out which way is up.
Would be nice if they marked "top"
on them.

Are those stair lights low voltage? I would love offer up some of those. Without getting too detailed, how difficult is it to set them up?

The other thing is their
business model sucks.
My local "dealer" is 84 Lumber.
I call them, they call the distributor
in Minneapolis, they call the
Dekor people in Colorado.
Good product though.

Re: Two-Tone TimberTech Earthwoods Job

There goes Greg and those darn black railings. You are right everyone must like them. Hell I cant even get a sample of the black around here. I would love to do those size jobs all the time. I get tired of saying this but, looks good as always. I would take some pictures of the pool deck I just did but it is not too impressive, just good ol' pressure treated with PT railings and lattice (yuck) for the skirtings.

Re: Two-Tone TimberTech Earthwoods Job

Neo (and others)
you can buy directly- that's what we do. Iv'e got an account set up with De-Kor directly. We established this after a few CC purchases. I think I get 10-15% off, which about pays for the shipping.
Oh, and a tiny link from their website as well.

My contact there is Mark, though I believe we've chatted with the owner 1-2 times as well over the last 2 years. All-in-all, they seem like nice people, and ship a good, easy-to-install product.

Now, if only i could find their counter-part in simple LED lighting for LV landscape lighting, I'd be all set!

~Matt

PS, Greg, the attention to details looks as good as always. Nice work man!

Re: Two-Tone TimberTech Earthwoods Job

Warner,

Don't sweat it man! Keep up the quality, and keep your eye out for someone interested in a longer-term product. Maybe start with a simple composite and a basic vinyl railing. Heck, bump your warranty up to 2-5 years, and hit it hard on the marketing!!

Ok, off my late-night soap box!!
LOL
