TT Twin Planks W/ HFS

Here are some pics of my latest deck. Yes it is a boring rectangle and their are no railings just yet & stairs are not shown.

Homeowner was happy enough to put their furniture on it already

Very interesting to note that you have a single beam lagged to the outside of a 4x4 post. That would never pass code here.

I was about to make the same comment, Terry. You beat me to it.

That may just be the camera angle. They are notched 6x6 posts with a double 2x10's. They are not lagged, they are carraige bolts. And yes, it did pass inspection without a problem.

Take one more run through the pics from the other angles. You can see the double beams cut, and the outside pics show obvious 6x6's. Rough crowd!

Re: TT Twin Planks W/ HFS

It was my first time using it, so I thought it was a little time consuming. I'm sure that I would be much faster now. Just make sure you fasteners are installed correctly (screw on a 45 degree angle) and make sure they seat correctly against the board or you'll start getting a wavy pattern.

I talked to the supply house guy & he said he has gotten quite a few negative responses (mostly about the time consumption) about the CONCEALoc, and highly recommened the Correct Deck HFS.

Re: TT Twin Planks W/ HFS

I don't get the comments about ConcealLocs being slower. When I'm looking at using a template to mark hole locations, predrilling and running screws for a top screwed composite board, ConcealLocs are a lot faster. But I also need my lines of screws to be perfect.

I've also heard good things about the CD Fastenators, I just haven't used them yet.

HFS is where composites are going - understand that and stay ahead of the curve (and the competition)... no one is going to want to spend that much on composite (or plastic) decking and have visible screw heads all over the place. Unlike screws in wood, the screw holes in a composite board will just get more noticeable over time.

I agree Mac that the finished product is much nicer with the HFS. I was just saying that the HFS take a little adjustment over surface attachment.

Sure, first time you work anything new, it's gonna be an adjustment...and you're gonna move slower. I was responding more to the negative comments that your supply house guy was telling you about.

(Just re-read my earlier post - yeah, that came across wrong... my bad.)

Ditto. It's one screw and a clip. The only way to be faster is to have the boards come with the joists already installed!
