Today Was A Good Day!`

Well, I'm 5 weeks ahead of last year's schedule. Yesterday I finished the install of a $2,000 custom trellis, dug and set footings for a deck and front porch at two different locations - long day.

TODAY we got the deck framed (the one for the elderly lady that got ripped off) and the first 10 rows of decking down and then went for a follow-up with the landscaping company I quoted on a BIG deck for a couple of weeks ago.

SO, I get the go ahead on the $36K deck with only a few minor adjustments to be done.

My apologies for tooting my own horn but I just had to share my good news with my friends here at CT.

It's only Tuesday but it's been a GREAT week!

I think I speak for everyone when I say never apologize for feeling good about yourself and your abilities. If I were you, I'd take this good feeling you have and try to immediately go out and sell more. Keep the momentum going. Salespeople will tell you this same thing. It's when you feel good about yourself that you are at your best. Go for it again!

Re: Today Was A Good Day!`

Terry, we're way busier than we were last year. Lots more leads, although some of them seem to think that because the economy is bad, they think I'm going to give away mmy work.
I quoted one fellow $4400 for a porch enclosure in Aluminum. The material and glass alone is $1600.00. He showen me written quotes for $1800.00.

Had another guy with a wood fence. I quoted $4400.00 including disposal. My cost, around $3000 or so. He has a written quote for a "cash" deal for $3100.00.
Another one was $11,000 including a $2500 removal. Some other contractor: $6000.00
The material alone was over $3000, forgetting labour and disposal costs.

I also went to quote a basement. It's a simple, straighforward job, nothing fancy and it's around $30,000. The HO has had 3 other quotes, ranging from a low of $8000 to....get this.....$130,000!!!

I'm not worried though. This always happens in March. The idiots are out there lowballing. They never learn. They'll book themselves silly out till June or later at low prices, ;eaving the market wide open for me. My time will come soon.

Glad to hear some of you guys are prospering. For the first time in a while I have several weeks of work lined up with deposits already collected. I have several more that I am positive I will get, just waiting on decisions to be made . As always I am optimistic.

Re: Today Was A Good Day!`

That is great news. for the past month or so I've been pretty worried about this up coming year. I wasn't getting the calls I usually get. But Now I have 4 or 5 weeks booked ahead. And last night i got another call from one of my favorite past clients to do some work. Going over this morning to see what he needs. I think it will be a good year for us up here in northern Maine. And I hope everywere!

Getting lowballed is frustrating, but dont let it get to you. Its going to happen. Up here is bad right now, Alot of mills have shut down and there are alot of guys that throw there skill saw and hammer in the back of there truck and call themselves contractors. Last week I did a bid on a small addition. As I was pulling in the driveway an older station wagon was leaving. My bid came in at 18k. The homeowner then tells me that the guy that was leaving when I was getting there placed a bid at 7500. And to be perfectly honest my materials are going to be more than that. But these fly by night pickup or station wagon contractors will be gone after a job or two, then the HO will call us to come finish or fix. So I am trying not to let all this bother me and just keep pluggin away, I think thats all we can do!

Tell you what- you'll have a better response selecting a local contractor from NADRA.org.

Figure 10k to 14k for the project, depending on your cut as a GC, and the specifics.

Yes, yes it is. I've been going at full speed since March 19th.

I've already done 4 consultations this week and I have 3 more today and 2 tomorrow.
