Tile On Stoop , Bad Idea.
I think this was a flipper house. I got a call from the new home owner to install some railings, The stoop looks like a reface to help sell the house, what a bad idea using this tile. My son walked up and as soon as his shoe hit the top he slipped and almost fell , and that was just a damp surface, i can only imagine walking out on it with a little snow or ice. The tile looked to be 75% glossy with a 25% matt design. What a bad choice.

This must be why my homeowners insurance goes up about 12% every year.

Most of the McDonald's hamburger stands around here have tile outdoor sidewalks around the building. They sorta have grip pattern on them, like diamond plate aluminium. Quarry tile, from the looks of it.

Re: Tile On Stoop , Bad Idea.
You can also get quarry tile with a carbide grit embedded in the surface, I use it in restaurant kitchens or other places where grease is a problem.
But your right woodwizard, that is an accident waiting to happen. The same thing happens whe you epoxy the garage floor and don't put any type of non-slip grit of finish on it. Walk in with snow-covered shoes or boots and the epoxt becomes a skating rink. I had a client a couple years ago had the garage done in the fall, and when she pulled in after the first good snow, she slid right into the back wall. The floor look good, flat and shiny like a piece of glass, but slippery like you wouldn't believe.

She no doubt hexed herself to begin with by having something slippery done in the 'fall' . . .

Re: Tile On Stoop , Bad Idea.
I my very own self have installed tile on an existing creet steps that I built off of several times. The Wallet loved it no yo yos yet. Really guys if ice/snow gets on wood its going to be a slip n slid thing same as anything out doors in the freeze.
I love that posted job,in fact If I could figure out a way I would use tile detail as a major pitch. Not the stone deck stuff thats total junk a real tile detail would look very nice and I could sell the dickens out of it. John |
