T & G Garapa Porch Floor

Hi Folks,

After much research, mostly fruitless I ask your profesional opinions. I have replaced several porches of this type but this one has thrown me a few curve balls. I have a client who wants her porch floor replaced with T & G Garapa. The porch is a north facing covered screen porch on a late 1920's bungalow, just outside our nations capital. Size is 30' X 9'. T & G is being used to retain the traditional look.
There are bushes all around the porch so ventilation is lousy. She does not want the floor to be painted or sealed (Anchorseal on all cuts of course). Some of the interior framing needs to be replaced or sistered and I plan on going with 16" centers. I plan on using stainless trim head screws into the grooves to attach the flooring. I want to limit movement as much as possible so what are your thoughts on adhesive to the joists? Any thoughts on this project will be appreciated.
Thanks, Bruce

Re: T & G Garapa Porch Floor

I like garapa,and ipe,and maseranduba great S American Stuff.

Anchorseal is a compleat waste of time and money, cross ventalation is a must installing any of this material, I have T&G material milled with an extra 1/8'' in the G and belved edges, construction adhesive on the joists, a 1/2'' slot in the T every 3' or so. The frame has got to be secure with no overspans, the decking snug fit not jamed up.

T&G decking drains the same way as face fastened thru the gap,air dried lumber for an outside install.

I know a bunch of other little tricks
