Slow Again

Here are some initial shots of gluing up railing arches. I have about 12 to do.

Re: Slow Again

I can get 3 comfortably on the form. I have about 3 days to do this. My job is about 10 min. from my home/shop, so I'll make a few trips.

Re: Slow Again

Is that 'monkey glue' for gluing up those rails and you're hiding the 'Titebond glue' somewhere in that pic? Twelve rails all the same radius? You can never have enough clamps when bending a radius or an extra set of hands huh?

Mark's going to stop in between jig setups to play a few games of table tennis apparently!

What material are you bending? I can't tell what it is.

Re: Slow Again

I'd bet CHR. I hope you don't get any glue on your pong table.

Re: Slow Again

Deckman gets it. It is clear heart redwood. It will be the top rails for a small entry deck with decorator balusters.

Can't you guys see the garbage bags under the glueing station.

The reason I use monkey glue, is that titebond usually sets up too fast for me to get all the clamps on. It was 90 deg. today. These were shorter rails, so maybe I could have gotten away with the TB, but I have 3 longer ones that will require another jig.

Yeah I saw the plastic, just thinking about how glue would mess up the pong balls flight.

Re: Slow Again

Many years ago I was very good. While in college, we played 3-4 hours every day. Now, age has taken it's toll and my eyesight isn't very good. I can still beat my kids half of the time, when they coax me to play. My oldest son is pretty good, he is also a D1 baseball player, so he has much better eye hand coordination then I.

About 10 years ago we were doing the offices for a large landscape firm, in a warehouse. The bosses were very into ping pong. They challenged us to a best 2 out of 3 for about $500 in extras. Double or nothing. We won.

You hustler you, lol.

I too was a pretty good pong player in my younger years. In high school I lived to play pong. After high school I got drafted into the army & sent to Berlin where I would play in the USO club tournaments. I lost interest in those as no one was any good. One day a buddy came & told me the US Army in Europe champ was going to play in the USO tourney. Best of 3 format, no need to play the 3rd game & I left with the trophy. I would have spanked Forest Gump in those days. Hadn't picked up a paddle in years tho.

Check your pm when you get a chance.

Re: Slow Again

Mark, I do a lot of glue ups like that, it all depends on the project far as TB 111 or polly glue, but if your looking for some really good Glue Guys..Give these Folks a call >>740 763 2886 << Sometimes I talk to Kent and sometimes Eric but man they make some high grade stuff. Its high $ but well worth it for a lot of reasons. J.

Re: Slow Again

Arches in place. Almost finished. We need the post caps and lighting, plus some more paint on the T1-11 siding.

The pic without the arches is the before deck.

Re: Slow Again

Mac, you got it. 36" Decorator ballusters with the designer connectors.

Originally this railing was going to have a ipe cap. But the owner decided not to cap it and put post caps on instead. Supposedly he is making the post caps out of glass?.

This is our 3rd phase on this project. We built a 40' x 20' workshop, and about a 1000 sq. ft of deck in the back.

Originally there were to be more phases. A garage to the left of this deck and a complete kitchen remodel. However, the owner bought another house instead. It will consist of more work then we have done here.
I think that I posted pics of the previous phases in other threads.
