Pvc Decking?

Just trying to get a true evaluation from pros who use this stuff, I have a home owner wanting a true pvc deck instead of a composite deck I have used Trex composite only for a while now and have never installed one of these. any hands on feed back would be good as I am not familiar with these. It would not let me post links yet so here are the brands

Azek Deck

Trex Escapes

Timbertech XLM

Fiberon Sanctuary

good, better, best, or if its even worth using if there have been any issues with the new product yet. I never know what to say when something has not been around long enough to have lots of reviews on yet.

If you'll use the "Search" button located in the blue button bar above, you'll find several threads covering PVC decking.

Basic synopsis: AZEK, TimberTech XLM and CorrectDeck CX are the clear winners.

You need to do your homework.
You can search here, and all of
these companies have web sites.
This would at least eliminate your
confusion.
Azek Deck and Fiberon Sanctuary are
PVC, Fiberon being the newest and
least tested.
All of the others mentioned are composites,
a different animal than PVC.

I figure if this guy's customer is asking him for PVC decking, what he's really asking for is non-composite, non-wood...I could be wrong, but I think any of my first three options would fit his needs well.

Re: Pvc Decking?

You might want to check out Truemarc decking. It's new, PVC and rice hulls, and has great exotics "colors" (doesn't look like vinyl siding). I haven't used it, yet, but may be soon.
Azek has been making great boards and moldings, so I think they can be trusted. I'd stay away from Trex--too many complaints in the past. Lots of good feedback about TT, in general, but not much about xlm 'cuz it's new. I don't know much about Fiberon, but I think Home Cheepo carries it, so, for me, that's a red flag to stay away.

It is their house brand in several markets, including mine. My lumber yard sells "Fiberon" at almost double the cost of "Veranda". Idiots.

The lack of product knowledge I run into is amazing sometimes.

Hey Mac, no problem, we in the industry call the whole segment 'ultra-low maintenance' decking, and you're right, we consider ourselves part of that category. It's where the most action in new products and new product development is right now and is the hottest part of the market. The low end is good too, it's the middle that seems to be tough this year.

Re: Pvc Decking?

Hey there,
I recently had a deck built with Quadra decking. Its also known as Aurora. It's a lot cheaper then most of the brands you mentioned, but I really liked the final product. I can't post the link to the pictures I took but if you search the diychatroom for quadra you should find my post and the link.

Re: Pvc Decking?

dhbehreds, let's not be disingenuous. Your listed trade is "Decks," when in reality it should be "Homeowner who hires a deck guy."

This is a statement pulled from your online photos page at shutterfly. You don't have a "website," you have an "online photo album" hosted on a free server.

"I hired a contractor for the job. Deck Pro's in the 507 area code did the ..."

Not to split hairs, but this is contractortalk.com. We very much prefer homeowners to stay in DIYchatroom.com.

Thank you,

Mac
