Pool Deck

I'm about to start building a deck for an above ground pool.

The HO asked about running the decking under the rim on the pool rather than flush with the top (as is my plan right now).

I told him it'd be a tripping hazard.

Am I correct?

Of course, will be getting a permit so will ask build inspector.

But would like to hear thoughts if any.

Thanks, Greg

Re: Pool Deck

It will be fine...here is one I did, the lip is only about an inch and a half.

Re: Pool Deck

I use to do a lot of above ground pool decks, almost all were with the decking under the pool wall cap. All the pool manufacturers tell folks on the owners manual not to stand on the cap, but we all know kids will do it. By having the decking run under the cap it helps give support, looks better too.

Once a customer wanted the deck built over the pool to give the appearance of an inground pool. Even against my advice that's what they went ahead with. I bet they regretted that decision when they had to change the liner.

Re: Pool Deck

Let me add one more thing...drop the deck down another inch so they can put a cover on the pool.

Re: Pool Deck

Also, when the pool liner needs to be re-placed, the cap needs to be able to be removed for that, and re-installed. The deck over the pool/lip/cap, would create issues....
