Question

Permit Time?

Just wondering how long it takes some of you to get building permits for a deck job? I am working on 2 right now and the soonest I can get a permit is 3-4 weeks. Is this a reasonable amount of time? I have everything ready for the township in a couple of days, then I wait, and wait. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process at all or do they have me by the .

I know patience is a virtue, but some income after a kinda slow winter would be good!

I walk into my building department and spend maybe 30 mins at zoning (unless there is a line, but most of the time there is none) 30 mins at engineering (waiting in line is about 10-20 mins of that) then 5 mins at the desk getting the permit.
So I spend about an hour to an hour and half... I bet that makes you mad dont it?

Re: Permit Time?

less than an hour to get a permit for anything. getting the guy to come out to do inspections on time is another thing.

Re: Permit Time?

have your home owner call the township and ask why thier permit isn't ready. this seams to work. i get the feeling that township employees enjoy working like snails.

Re: Permit Time?

I'm at three weeks right now waiting for a permit from the county office. I plan 4-6 for any permits through the city.

This is also right in the middle of busy season for permit apps -

Re: Permit Time?

It takes a max of 2 weeks for all permits. quite often fences, decks , pools and small buildings a day or two. the bld insp. said contractors don"t have the permit filled out or no site plan drawn.
The big thing they don"t have their workers comp. in, I suggest send it in workers comp in January of the new year

WORD
I have experienced anywhere from the next day to 2 weeks, but that has never stopped me from ordering materials, delivery, getting tools onsite and holes dug, I always dig my holes right away and fill them with liners water and zip tie em off, if they sit for 1 day or 2 weeks regardless of rain in forcast or not, they're perfect day of inspection, just show up hour before inspection and pump them out. the second I get a call that my permit is in I schedual footing inspection for the following day and I don' t miss a beat

Re: Permit Time?

Things are ridiculous out here! The last 2 jobs I have done took 3 months to get from the go ahead to getting the permit in hand!
