Pergola On Deck.
I have a customer that wants a deck built with a pergola on it, I have built pergola's before, but never on a deck. They have always been on the ground with the posts in concrete. The deck will be about 5' off the ground. My question is, what is the best way to secure or stablize the pergola, my assumption is to run the posts through the deck to the ground & concrete them in place. Right or wrong? Is there a better way?

Re: Pergola On Deck.
Man there is so much missing info - like the layout, design, materials
Yes you can run the posts through the deck, but there are so many options where it all depends ---Here is another option http://www.contractortalk.com/f50/16x24-patio-roof-52189/ (Yes I know it is a patio - but some of the principles apply) |

Re: Pergola On Deck.
Covered or open pergola?
Do you have to worry anout snow loads? How big is it? What size are the existing joists? How high above grade is the deck? What's the design of it? How far apart are the rafters? Any coverage on them? How many support posts? What size posts? |
