One Down, Three To Go-TT Docksider 2 X 6

Man, is this stuff heavy! Timbertech 2 x 6 x 16 "Docksider" planks. I'm using it for treads and landings on 4 condos. Knocked one out today, three more to go.

Looks good I have never used that stuff, but it looks heavy as heck. That had to be fun getting all that old stuff out of there, then getting all the new stuff cut and into place!

Re: One Down, Three To Go-TT Docksider 2 X 6

Actually wasn't too bad. I cat's pawed the nails out of the treads since the stringers are pretty old and I didn't want to crack them by blasting the treads up with a sledge. The landing was old true 2 x 3s, they came up real easy. All the treads and landing cuts were exactly 48", so it went pretty quick. I'm pretty sore and wore-out though, this working alone stuff gets old....

That dosen't sound to bad then, I know I have torn out 2x decking before with 16d spiral nails, what a pain!

I hear ya on that one, I still like it though maybe I am a weirdo I guess I just have a certain way I do things. I have had some guys working for me before, sometimes it seems like just less hassle only relying on me.

Don't get me wrong, I love working alone from a perfection standpoint, it's just nice to have a second pair of hands to carry stuff, clean up, etc. occasionally.

Is there a reason they didn't want you to close the risers? That's a borderline code violation on a reskin.

No code violation here, as far as I know. Just replacing the treads. They are cheap, that's why no stringer replacement or risers. I already tried, believe me.

I figured as much. It just surprises me to see people spend money to a point and then stop to save a few extra bucks.

Yea, as soon as I pulled the first tread I told the property manager that I may need to replace the stringers. "I had trouble getting them to pay for just the tread replacement" was his answer. These condos are summer beach getaways for 95% of the owners, completely unoccupied in the off-season. Two blocks to the beach.

I am intersted to see if those TT planks can make that span down the road without a little dip going on. John
