Non Sober Post

Well as some of you know i posted some pics of a deck i worked very hard on and took pride in( I actually do this work because i love it not because i fell into it) My best bud calls me and asks for a hand on a deck he is building, I say no problem! I ask whats left? he says framing, deckingand railing i say no problem! going to the job i askwhere it is, no sh**t close to where i built mine! come to find out not close but 3 houses down!!!! and it gets better! he quoted the deck at 28 or less a S.F WTF! makin' a profit? hes like i needed the work (whatever) get to the job and ask how big? he says 14x17. odd but whatever. prep siding put ledger boards on and pull measurments for beams and holly S! he f'ed up the footer had a 5' cantalever as you can see the quick fix was some stupid 4x4 posts that doubled as a handrail that screams AFTERTHOUGHT! he was pissed i was pissed. I went into helper mode because i was still pissed i didn't get the job. He tryed to do the beam and the footers were so bad that this is the end result of both beams see how out of plumb this S is! the footers should be formed up and 2'' above grade and his crap was just dumped in the holes and no where near in line or level of sono tubed up. Im just so pissed that i was even on the job! the deck faild inspection beause when i asked him for the bolts for the handrail posts he gave me enough for 1 per post! I said we need 2 per and he said i always use 1. Well it failed because of it this stupid deck is so lack luster to the one i did but im sure he will get all of the deck in the new development because of his GREAT PRICE and the H.O lack of ability to see the diff. in quality I finished the decking and railing by myself and rolled. Anyway thanks or nothanks for letting me vent! tomorrow i think I'll be on the water!untill then I'll be drinken!

Re: Non Sober Post

Garrett,

That should have been $32-$40 per sq. ft- I'm assuming it's close by- but it should have been built correctly for that price!

Garrett

I post here drunk all the time. Most of the time no one notices unless you mention it

One of the many things I like about this forum is you can have great conversations and vent when you had a tough day, someone has been through the same problem and sympathize with you and usually have an answer or solution and if all else fails we have some good laughs at your expense

So get drunk, go kayaking, don't drown or hurt yourself and enjoy yourself

had some chicken nuggets with the little ones and coming off a good beer buzz. Just had to vent! Seems like my price is too high and someone else gets the jobs only to get lesser quality but they dont seem to care!

Sucks to have integrity doesn't it? That's alright, those customers don't appreciate quality anyway, so by going with the lowballer they get what they deserve when they have to call you next year to fix it.

That's not a problem for you in a year though-they still have to pay someone else to fix it so it might as well be you right?

I know, everyone says "Don't worry about the lowballers, they'll put themselves out of business". Problem is, when one goes down ten more pop up! They'll never go away so we've got to learn how to sell on value not price.

Coatesville....Grand Steel town that turned to Ca-Ca. Absolute drug/slum/poverty haven. Nearly can not touch the R/E there now! MAJOR Gentrification occurring. Looking good too!
