Re: New Footing Inovation
I first saw the concept over 35 years ago, so it is not new.
It never did go anywhere because the wood was still in the ground.

Re: New Footing Inovation
Hey concrete man, lunch at Zen Asia Wedsnday 12 pm?
I could tell you all I know about concrete, add water, stir and wait a while. Just like making a cake, except my cakes have a higher PSI.

Re: New Footing Inovation
Now the wood can come with ground and water contact, ACQ .40 is designed for ground and water contact, so it could not be a bad idea and it will save lots of work.

Re: New Footing Inovation
what if it had a sealed plastic shoe that just slides on the bottom and can be cut with a miter?

Re: New Footing Inovation
I'd want to try it, except for the lumber being in the ground, it makes sense.
Tamp the bottom of the hole and your good. Less impact on the envirement too.

Sorry Greg - wood in the ground goes completely against my grain (rated wood or not)
I have seen way to many posts rotted out or chewed up by weed eaters |

Re: New Footing Inovation
Doing that years ago it wouldn't cross my mind, but with ACQ lumber it can be done, I read ASTM report and its ok for ground contact and fresh water applications.

Re: New Footing Inovation
It will be hard in NJ to use this product. They have engineering sealed reports there, but NJ inspectors and NJ building codes look different at this issues.

Aren't their plastic posts rated for this application? Good for 60,000 years give or take a decade.

Re: New Footing Inovation
Looking real quick I only found one reference to their size, 10" diameter. You'd need a bunch of them to support 50psf. A 16' deep deck would need them set 2' apart on a single outside beam if my math is correct. So, extras time digging holes, extra time back filling & compacting, I'll stick with my concrete thank you.

Re: New Footing Inovation
I dunno, they look kinda small. I think I'll stick with big foot footings.
