Need Help On How To Attach Wood To Metal Posts

I received an invitation to bid on a project that has me a little cornfuzzled.

there is no detail on how to attach a wooden slat (1x6) to a square metal poly coated 4x4 post. the slats are to overlap and form a wall similar to siding

something like this

but between the posts rather than on top of them. If it were a wooden post I could Dado a channel and slide the board in.

So far, the only idea I have had is to run a 2x2 strip on the inside of the metal post, attach it to the post and then screw the boards to it.

Thoughts?

Nice Ride FJ. I am a Harley man but I really like watching Johnson racing he rides like a bird.

I tap con pt 2xs to the metal posts, fasten pt stringers to the 2xs, install the fencing to the stringers. Works great. J.

I am gonna give a call to the contractor in the morn. From the drawings, it looks like both sides are to be "clean" minus the slats. so if I understand what you are suggesting, I don't believe this would be acceptable.

Its all with the rear tire, shocks adjustment, and a little fun with the gas!!!

Good looking on both sides with metal posts= wrapping the posts after pt on both sides, install the stringers inbetween, fasten the fenceing detail in the middle on both sides. This is a real money maker with the right Wallet. J.

Well, John, It looks like you are the only one on this board that can help me brainstorm after 55 hits on the thread.

For that, Thanks.

After reading numerous threads over the last month, I am beginning to determine there is not a lot of help on this board.

I am glad the motorcycle community will reach out more than the contracting community.

You got the right answer right off the bat.....use self tapping screws to fasten a piece of 1x4(I would use 2x4) to the post. after that build it however you want....no problem....
