I like it. Too bad you couldn't convince them to upgrade to a better material.

The labor is the labor with wood so whether you cut pine or cedar, it doesn't affect the labor costs at all.

Good thing you took a pic now. In a year, that wood is going to look like hell if they don't stay on top of it.

LOL ur telling me, i tried to convince them into better but they are a young couple and really dont give a crap, in fact i think they would destroy a AZEK deck lol, they party like every week that deck had 30 people on it and i wasn't even finished and i couldn't use 2x10's because it was covering the basement windows and doors so 2x8's used, people was jumping up and down i almost fainted lol

Re: My Ghetto Deck

How did you attach the ledger to the brick?

That kind of handrail detail might work with ipe, but I would not have done it like that using TP. But what the heck, it's a getto deck.

Re: My Ghetto Deck

I don't see anything wrong with it! Not everyone can afford the extra cost of composite. At least you done your best with what you had to work with. Good job.

Re: My Ghetto Deck

Nice deck. I like the detail for the edging around the edge. Good workmanship.

Did you use 32 or 36" pickets? FYI, you are supposed to have at least 36" between horizontals, and a max of 4" from top of deck to top of bottom stringer. Otherwise, my compliments!

For those of you not familiar with Toronto, P.T decks are very popular. About 70 % of my decks are PT. One out of 10 is composite and the rest are cedar.
The PT fades, but will last forever.
Last month I replaced a deck I built 26 years ago. The new owners wanted a bigger one, but were fascinated to see a picture of their deck when brand new. It was actually in pretty good shape.
