My Biggest Project To Date
Hi Guys wanted to show off my deck I finished last month. Had help for about half of it. When I did the footings it was during a heavy rain period. The ground was so wet that one time when I left the hole for a few hours, when I came back I had to pump out 8 gal of water before pouring concrete.

Looks nice, man. Did you box in the cedar posts or are those 6x6s?

Re: My Biggest Project To Date
The post are 6x6 rough cut cedar, I take the belt sander and go over them first. When I set them in concrete, I wraped them with post and pole wrap by MFM. Use to use copper but it's gotten to expensive.

Re: My Biggest Project To Date
Hey man that is some nice looking work...
I know what you mean about water and pier holes. The project we just finished up we dug the holes before the the small town had the paperwork for the permit, it took them 8 days (instead of the 1 they normally do) before they approved it. Our pier holes filled with water to the top from rain and sprinklers and sat for 8 days. When we finally cleaned them out for inspection we had to shop vac over 50 gal of water out of them and a whole lot of mud. Inspector came at 2:15... and the clouds had already moved in... started raining at 2:30 So the very next day we had piers full to the top with water again. Very frustrating. 747 I had a project that had thier breaker panel on the outside of the house and it looked just like that. It was real nice I did not even go out of my way to avoid tripping breaker since I knew I could turn them back on, I think i tripped at least a dozen times.

The deck looks really good but have fun staining it without getting any stain on the composite.

Re: My Biggest Project To Date
I found a solution to this problem... Use Correct Deck CX, we had one with painted redwood posts and we dripped paint a few times... Wipes right up no problem.

Re: My Biggest Project To Date
I think the box was an add on for the swimming pool pump. This project was educational in waiting on other trades. Since it rained so much the concrete guy could not get in to fill the hole where they took out a sidewalk under the 12x16 deck so all I could get done was the post. The customer decided to change the single door to a 3 panel door. They had to rip out bricks so I waited untill they were done with that before I did the frame and decking in front of the door. The customer was so anxious to use her deck. While waiting on the other guys I decked under the little pergola first. The next day I came back she had it filled with fur. I did the next section, next day I came back she had that filled. The step was the very last thing because of waiting for the concrete guy to pour the pad. About 2 weeks late because of the rain. The waiting on other trades really put a crimp in the cash flow. A learning experence.

What's underneath your deck, Daveco? It looks like the deck is not touching the concrete below by a half inch; is that by design?

If your talking about the steps, I left a gap for water to drain under the cedar trim. |
