The geometry makes sense. I'm ready to try it now.
Do you cut the radius on the ends of your treads?

How do you figure out what to charge for all the curves? Is it T&M?
Do you throw out a number and see if they flinch? :-)

About how long does it take to make
the bend on the inside stringer?
Just wondering if it's all one go,
or if you allow it some time to find
it's new shape.

I wonder if you could build a jig, and set the curve in a controlled environment.
If you "shaped" the stringers, and let the PT wood dry for several weeks, would it retain the shape?
You could sell the stringers in specific radiuses.
(thinkin' out loud) :-)

Maybe you could set a contract price on the deck, and still do the stairs as a separate job, as long as its under $5K.
Would that fly?

The boneman has done this before, he knows what it costs.
For the rest of us, follow his rate of pics, and you will have a idea on how long it takes.

btr, I'm really trying to be a nice guy here, but you are really pushing it. for starters since we live in the same county and presumably cross paths with the same prospects from time to time, suffice it to say YOU are my competition, so before I pull this whole God damn thread down and ruin it for some of the chaps here who are actually interested and that can actually pull this off, hows about watching and learning grasshopper, and get registered while your at it

the inner one is the easy one, takes about 10 minutes, its the outer one thats a bitch, set it at the top bearing in mind that the heel is going to be nowhere near where it needs to be so you'll have to block and shim up to get the elevation/rise right so the top sets nice, pick it at the bottom for leverage and ratchet strap it to each temp wall stud, cake, the outer one is a biatch to get set up just right, but simmilar procedure

Man I love that. Its an odd example but when I did leaded glass/klin work, fabracation it was simular. You already know it will work its just diging up the guts to do it.
Thinking about all the pt lumber that took a notion to bend up in a half circle and me cussing it out cause it will never straighten out. Dammmmmm John why dident you think of using it that way???? J.

Yeah, it would take some guts to tell a customer you could pull it off & naming your price without ever actually pulling it off. I've done that before & it's bitten me in the arse. Sometimes you surprise yourself tho.
Maybe we should have a "guts" contest to see who has the guts to sell a Boneman curved stairway, then the wherewithall to pull it off. Heck you don't even have to make money, you're allowed to loose your arse, at your own expense of course.

I somehow missed this thread until just now. Glad I didn't miss it entirely, that is some sweet stuff. I've only been able to sell 1 deck with a curved "corner" in my career. Lost financially on it due to the learning curve, but loved every minute of it.
I never would have thought about what your doing without laminating, really nice work.
Good Luck
Dave
