You're welcome to come by one of our jobs sometime & inspect our work if it will make you feel better or convince you I'm a pro.

Or you can look up any of the articles I've written over the years for various magazines, from JLC to Professional Deck Builder to Tools of the Trade. Or you can go to our website or to Remodeling TV & see clips of me teaching classes on carpentry related topics at JLC Live & The Remodeling Show.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm a pro. Never claimed I know it all or that there aren't plenty of carpenters better than myself, only that I have a few decades of experience & I rely on the industry to support myself, which I believe makes me a professional.

Re: Mike Holmes Builds Deck

Rob, talking about proof, how about you prove that you know how to build a deck. No decks on your website, yet you claim to build them. Maybe you watched Holmes show & thought that's the way to do & just don't know any better.

The show is like any other form of entertainment. Just that. Take it for what it's worth (a whole lotta nothing).

I enjoyed watching it for a while but then got tired of the over-the-top dramatizations. I'll still watch it if nothing is good on the history channel or decked out isn't on.

Mike is a fairly competent uneducated contractor who pitched a good idea for a t.v. show.
He is not like some people (mostly H.O.s) think, the standard we should live up to, rather just a decent guy who does decent work.

Most of the contractors online checking forums are already a notch or two above Mr. Holmes as far as I'm concerned. Well informed, self-educating, knowledge-seeking folks who love their trade enough to talk about it and learn about it "after-hours."

For example most of us know that regular screws aren't designed or spec'd for structural use.
