in the old day when you went to the hardware store for screws you came back with bright slotted screws that you were supposed to use 2 or 3 different drill bits just to get the hole drilled

and thats when you used the ''Polish screwdriver''as we used to call it

If I provide pictures you will just say that they are not mine. It is something that I do, but I am far from an expert, and have never claimed to be.

This is getting old. All that I am asking is for the episode or project that you saw him doing something wrong. That way the discussion can actually become productive.

As for my website, it is a flash site and not easy to update. However you will see a deck on my FB page that we rebuilt. The other few that we have done have just not made it to the WWW, as I have been too busy to do much updating.

I really think that all of you have taken this the wrong way. You are offended that I am not taking your word for it, and all that I want is to confirm it for myself. Do I think that you guys know your profession, sure. But I also don't believe that you are very objectionable when it comes to this subject and may not be accurate in saying that he is doing it wrong.

Like I said, what defines "wrong". Are you saying that it is against his local code, your local code, International Building code, not the best practice, may leave room for failure. It is ambiguous to say he is wrong.

All that I have asked for was more information so that I can form my own opinion. Maybe if instead of taking the time to attack me, you could do a little search on the show and try and find the episode or project. I would be more than happy to watch on my own and see what you guys are talking about.

Is that too much to ask?

You, on the other hand- I can't recall anything from you but random douchebaggery and contrarian posts.

Saying "prove he is a hack" is quite different than "prove that you saw him using yellow-zinc construction screws in joist hangers."
You're full of it.
But what's funny is one said that it was plain deck screws and another said it was construction screws. Explain that. Which is correct? They both saw it with their own eyes, but both cannot be correct. So who is wrong? Oh that's right, neither because they apparently they cannot make a mistake.

And that's my point. In this one example, we have two eyewitnesses that saw two different things.

Thanks for the example!

Or you can look up any of the articles I've written over the years for various magazines, from JLC to Professional Deck Builder to Tools of the Trade. Or you can go to our website or to Remodeling TV & see clips of me teaching classes on carpentry related topics at JLC Live & The Remodeling Show.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm a pro. Never claimed I know it all or that there aren't plenty of carpenters better than myself, only that I have a few decades of experience & I rely on the industry to support myself, which I believe makes me a professional.
I don't doubt that you are a pro, nor do I doubt your knowledge of the business. However it doesn't mean that your judgement isn't clouded and that you don't make mistakes.

And I would love to come out and check out one of your jobs sometime soon. And I serious about the beer.

It's wrong because it violates code, and is against manufactures instructions. That's all that's needed for it to be "wrong", and there is no debating it.

And how the **** am I supposed to tell what ****ing episode it was I don't watch the stupid show, you on the other hand obviously do.

What was the title of the episode of "the big bang theory" that you watched for 10 mins 4 years ago?

Rob, If you cannot answer the following question then you prove my point.

What was the color shirt worn by a news anchor doing the weather report on your local channel 17 sometime roughly 4 years ago?

I had "PROOF" but seems Mike changed his website. Not my fault.

I already posted a link to the episodes and their descriptions. If you don't know how to do a quick five minute search on what may be the show, then it's a mute point.

And I understand that if it violates code it is wrong, but too many times on CT guys say something is wrong, when it is not wrong, just not the code for their area or the best practice method.

And if I saw something wrong on the show and wanted to prove it, I would find a way to locate that episode. It's pretty easy. The internet is a great place full of useful information right at your fingertips.

But you provided that proof. You showed that he was incorrect by displaying a link to pictures. That is all that I am asking. For a little effort other than he is a hack and used the wrong screws.

Why is it that I am douchebag for wanting to see it for myself? Are the egos that big here that people can't back up their claims?

Construction screws and deck screws are the same thing and look basically the same, except one is for exterior use. Some people use the terms interchangeably (though technically incorrect) which happens a lot in construction.

In the end it does not matter which one of them were right because neither are appropriate for the application he used them for. Meaning either way, Holmes was still wrong.

Re: Mike Holmes Builds Deck

You never answered my question about the newscaster. I don't what episode it was. I don't understand why you can't seem to understand that. The "list" you provided is not followed up with descriptions like "the time when mike holmes uses screws in hangers instead of nails, thus violating code and manufacture specs". If it did it would be highly helpful.
