Micro-pro Contoversy
My local family owned lumber yard has gone over to this kind of treatment. I was loading up a frame package for a $13,000 Garapa job noticed the light color then the sticker change. The next day I get pro deckbuilding mag with the article from Viance acq guys showing MP rotted posts after 18 months. This kind of thing I dont need, work just now started trickling in I can just see trouble if this job cant even make it for a couple of years
Any input from you guys. J |

Re: Micro-pro Contoversy
I guess this is the article
Jon Mon is referring to?.... http://www.remodeling.hw.net/blogs/p...g&PostId=86777 Not all that scary, I don't think. Don't know what choice I have anyway. No yard or Box carries anything else in this part of the world. ACQ can be special ordered from a couple, but....

Just scare tactics, I'll wait until I see the results from a neutral third-party testing firm that conducted the study.

Re: Micro-pro Contoversy
I was uninformed until that article and seeing it in the Yard. Pro Deck Mag article had some pretty bad rot pic in 18 mo. Now the two of them are going at it and the best advise is dont put it in the ground. Ya know the ground contact material, dont put it in the ground. Say that is possible what about the low projects for that matter where the decking is fastened to the joists. No one knows.
Thanks a lot green mafia go have some red wine at the high class dinner bar and tost your self the same way ya did when you got cca kicked out. J. |

for a couple of years now. The treaters are pushing the change as much as anyone. The ACQ is so corrosive that it's hell on their plants and equipment. They like the micronized process a lot more.

Re: Micro-pro Contoversy
I have friends on both sides of this and they both are passionate about the issue. The Viance people are pulling up posts and finding rot; the MicroPro people are saying a certain amount of that is inevitable with any treatment. But what I would say is I think it's pretty unusual for you guys to put posts in the ground anyway, and in-ground applications seem to be where the controversy is.
What I think we might see longer term is more and more specialization in timber treatments - one for posts, one for framing, etc. I do know the magazines selling the ad pages are happy about it all! |

Re: Micro-pro Contoversy
Thanks for the info Guys. Forest Lumber my good ol family outfit has always gone .40 accross the board for all treated lumber while the box stores and a lot of other outlets went .25 They said it wasent worth the risk for a few cents a ft. That was good for me as a sales point in fact I put it in my contract,I have a little different way of framing I dont use 4x4s at all for the deck frame but I do backfill piers with a pt plate hilited on if this stuff is going to go in that short time span I am looking at some fast failure.
And like I said if a person cant put this ground contact labaled material in the ground how good is it going to be in other potental trouble areas? These fights between the wholesellers even if its just about money are very bad for Our Business thats not in the best of shape anyway. I could always order .40 cca from Tex or Ark and a few years ago I would do just that but not now with jobs being thin as hair on an egg. I just cant see how its legal to put a ground contact stamp on lumber that they both agree should not be installed in the ground. J. |

Re: Micro-pro Contoversy
I decided WTF if no one else gives a dammm I dont either. I landed that frame package on the job and we are going with it I did what I contracted to do stamped ground contact material the .40 probley dident have any weight anyhow with acq or anything else on the market now.
Just go with what the market is stamping and saying. Geting on and taking a long fast ride on the Harley the Only thing making any equal thinking in this time. John Mon |

Re: Micro-pro Contoversy
The Frame is up and the first draw is in the Bank. I do like how this stuff works very light compaired and the smell is yellow pine not chem. Hardley any water in it so the cuts are not ragged the movement as the water gasses off will probley be a lot less. Thats a very good thing when installing the S American lumber. How it holds up is still in question But I dumped a couple quarts of used Harley oil on the plates before I backfilled---- That should do it!!!!
It was a great ride, over OKC way on old 66 off I35 E there is a cool place called Pops any Riders out there would get along just fine. Twisting the power on left me thinging good reversed the stinking thinking I left with and I got back to home base right before the Storm set in but got to see all the colors and the wind. Life Is Good Lets Go Get Em!!!!! John Mon |
