Looking For A Post To Beam Connector

I need a connector for an 8 x 8 treated SYP post to a triple 2x (4 1/2 thick") beam. Simpson doesn't seem to make one. Any ideas?

I use a welder for making custom post base anytime I do free standing pergolas or pavillions. You could get a welder to make something for that connection I'm sure. Maybe something gothic looking w/hammer marks would look cool.

Re: Looking For A Post To Beam Connector

deckman's got a good idea w/ the custom weld...

Another thought would be the Simpson CC 5 1/4-8 w/ 5/8" thick wood filler plates filling out the beam saddle.

I'm curious as to the application that requires an 8x8 post for a trip-2x beam - care to share?

Re: Looking For A Post To Beam Connector

Code requirements for three stories or more now include a 1 hour fire rating on the deck, part of which is 8" posts, 5/8" drywall beneath, etc.
Check this out-architect spec'd stainless post bases, which are pretty much a requirement now anyway. The Simpson ABU88SS, which is the adjustable unit just like the 6" except it uses two mounting bolts........$650 each at my lumberyard. Good thing I only need two....

The deck surface will actually be fiberglass, since the underside needs to be weathered in due to the 5/8" drywall under the joists. They wanted glass originally anyway.
