Installing Deckorator Railings

I'll be doing a front porch with these. I was wondering if there is a better looking way to attach them to the rails. What about sandwiching them between two 2 x 4's so you don't see the attachment points? Or do they look fine as is, the way the brochure has them.

Re: Installing Deckorator Railings

You could face them with either 2x4s or 1x4s. You could use clear cedar (or whatever material you're using) boards and face them towards the inside of the deck to dress it up. I.E., screw the deckorators to a 2x4 that's positioned on the outer edge of your 4x4 post. Then, install a 1x4 on the inside. Screw the 1x4 to the 2x4 from the outside so the inside of your deck has no visible fasteners and clear cedar rails.

Re: Installing Deckorator Railings

Chris,

I would say it depends on what look the customer wants. Personally, I don't like the look of any of the metal balusters - but then it's not my porch/deck. Either of Mac's options will work but I would leave it to the customer and charge accordingly.
