Happy With Warranty So Far.

last summer i built my first composite deck. was pretty skeptical about composite from the get go. tried to talk the customer into some mahogony or ipe. but they were set on composite. so i figured there's a first time for everything and went for it. an 1100 sq. ft over walkout basement patio. complete with glass spindles low voltage lighting everywhere, cedar gazebo up top staircase to lower level, finished ceiling underneath, even a ceiling fan down under. trimmed to the tee.

looked beautiful until june when the skirt boards and post and beam wraps bowed so bad i could stick my hands behind the boards.

I followed all the instructions for decking and railings. looked and found no instructions for the trim/facia boards on manufacturers web site. so i made up my own rules. my rules were: trim like wood. nice tight miters and such. i was wrong.

the manufacturer rep told me they didn't have guidelines for the trim last year, but this year they have instructions to follow for proper installation. leaving 1/8" gaps at all joints and butts & screws every 12".

luckilly they valued my customer and granted a warranty check to them to cover new materials and labor for removal and new installation of trim. i'm getting it done for them to manufacturers specs this week.

anyone ever have issues with composite skirt, and post & beam wraps when installed to manufacturers specs?

You are going to have to let us in on what brand you are talking about. I know I have had some correct deck fascia bow a little on my first deck. I was able to add more screws and that took care of it. Now what I do voids the manufacture warranty because I glue it on. But it stays put so who need the warranty (If it really came down to it I would pay it out of pocket) But no real problems yet and I have been gluing for about a year in all kinds of differant weather. No bowing issues yet.

That blows me away that they would cover you. I thought it was pretty commonly considered an industry standard with composite to gap it? Sounds like you dodged a bullet there, gotta like that!

I've had the same problem with "Nex", which is no longer made, and "Forever Wood" which I would never touch again. In the case of the "forever Wood" the homeowner researhced, bought and paid for it himself, against my advice, so my workmanship warranty didn't apply. He is now suing the manufacturer.
